As a real estate investor it’s always exciting to follow the reality shows that feature fixing and flipping houses. I started investing in real estate 15 years ago in 2000 buying and holding property. In 2005 I started working on my first rehab property to fix and flip and never looked back. In 2008 I met my partner Michael Moreno and together we started fixing and flipping houses as a team. We always admired the various house flippers on TV and joked about one day being have our own reality show. That all changed in September of 2014 when Michael responded to an email post requesting a house to be featured on a reality show. We had just purchased a property in Baltimore city and we were planning the renovation. To our surprise they requested pictures and more information regarding our house and things took off fast and furious from there.
We received confirmation that they wanted to film our renovation so we talked and began the process of reviewing contracts and various documents required to began. Once the paperwork was completed we began discussing the cast and storyline for the show in addition to creating a production schedule and project plan for the renovation. Things started moving very fast and before you know it we were filming. Fortunately I had some experience in video production previously owning a company that did professional event videography. So, I knew we would have some long days and numerous hours filming.
Completing any renovation project is a challenge especially keeping a tight timeline and this project made for a bigger challenge because it had to be completed in 30 days. Yes, 30 days start to finish and what made this even more challenging was all the stopping and starting in order to film specific scenes. It required a lot of communication and cooperation on everyone’s part in addition to a lot of late nights and weekends.
I believe everyone was very excited about the project and the opportunity to be on TV myself included. During the time that Michael was on the set he had the opportunity to add a lot of feedback in the creative direction of various scenes. As the subject matter experts it was a challenge to blend in the reality, but yet add the creative aspects needed for compelling TV.
All in all it was a lot of fun! Check it out this Sunday, July 19th at 8PM on the FYI Network.
